The Sindh government has set March 8 as the date for distributing free pink electric scooters to selected women, coinciding with International Women’s Day.
Karachi – The Sindh government will hold a special ceremony on March 8 to give out free pink electric scooters to chosen women recipients. This move comes right on International Women’s Day and forms part of ongoing efforts to improve women’s access to safe and clean transport across the province.
Provincial Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon announced the plan. He explained that the scooters come with training sessions on road safety and how to ride them properly. The goal is to help women move around more easily and securely for daily needs like going to school, work, or other places.
Memon pointed out that the scheme supports women’s independence in social and financial ways. It also cuts down on air pollution since the scooters run on electricity rather than fuel.
Background on the Pink Scooter Scheme
The pink electric scooter program started earlier, with the Sindh cabinet approving up to 1,000 units in total for female students, working women, and others who qualify. Past phases included distributions and training programs run by the Sindh Mass Transit Authority (SMTA). Selection has focused on merit, often prioritizing those with valid licenses and from groups like students or employed women.
This latest distribution marks another step in the province’s push for better facilities for women. The government has stressed transparent processes in earlier rounds.
