Saudi Adds Easy Route to Jabal al-Noor Area for Visitors

New Route Improves Access to Key Sites

The service, part of the ongoing Makkah Bus Project, connects the Grand Mosque—also known as Masjid al-Haram—to the Hira Cultural District at the base of Jabal al-Noor. This mountain holds deep significance in Islam, as it is home to Cave Hira, where Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) received the first revelation of the Quran.

Many pilgrims wish to visit Jabal al-Noor, but the climb involves hundreds of steps and can take time. The cultural district addresses this by offering a replica of Cave Hira for those who cannot make the ascent. It also includes the Revelation Exhibition, the Museum of the Holy Qur’an, and several educational centers focused on Islamic history.

The new route provides direct transport to these attractions, allowing visitors to explore them without extra hassle. It forms part of broader efforts to link religious landmarks with cultural and educational spots in the holy city.

Makkah Bus Project Continues to Grow

The Makkah Bus network now runs 12 routes using more than 400 buses. These cover 580 kilometers with 431 stations across the city. Since starting operations, the project has carried over 188 million passengers.

Managed by the General Transport Center under the Royal Commission for Makkah City and the Holy Sites, the system offers safe and reliable travel options. It reduces reliance on private cars, helps ease traffic, and supports environmental goals.

Officials describe the expansion as aligned with the Pilgrim Experience Program and Saudi Vision 2030. The aim is to deliver high-quality public transport that serves both residents and the millions who visit Makkah each year for Umrah and Hajj.
