The Punjab government will start a new electric bus service next month, connecting Gujar Khan directly to the twin cities of Rawalpindi and Islamabad. This move aims to give commuters a cleaner, cheaper way to travel on one of the region’s busiest roads.
New Route Details
Fifteen new electric buses will run between Gujar Khan Adda and T Chowk on GT Road. The path goes through Mandra, with services in both directions. Officials say this will help thousands of daily passengers who work or study in the capital area.
This service fits into Punjab’s larger plan to switch to greener public transport across the province.
Recent Launches in Jhelum
The province recently started electric bus operations in Jhelum. More than 15 buses now run on three main routes there. Provincial Transport Minister Bilal Akbar Khan attended the opening event. He said more buses will arrive soon and called better city transport a key goal for the government.

Growth in Rawalpindi
In Rawalpindi, the electric bus system continues to grow. The fleet currently has 45 buses, but it will soon reach 80 as road work, including changes at Kutchery Chowk, wraps up. These buses already carry over 26,000 people each day on active routes. Once all ten planned routes open, that number should climb higher.
Government officials point to these steps as proof of their focus on cleaner air, easier travel, and better city planning in Punjab.
