In-Laws Set Pregnant Woman Ablaze in Punjab – Shocking Death

The tragic incident occurred in Ferozwala, near Lahore, where a five-month pregnant woman named Sana died after being set on fire, allegedly by her in-laws over a dowry dispute. Both she and her unborn child lost their lives due to severe burn injuries.

Police reports state that the attack took place at Sana’s home on Hyder Road. The suspects poured petrol or kerosene on her before setting her ablaze. Her mother-in-law and father-in-law are the main accused and fled right after the assault.

Sana suffered burns covering about 70% of her body, including her face, arms, and torso. Neighbors heard her cries for help and quickly called emergency services. She was taken to Mayo Hospital in Lahore in serious condition, but doctors could not save her. The unborn baby also did not survive.

Sana had married Mustafa six to seven months earlier. Initial police inquiries point to ongoing pressure over the dowry she brought to the marriage as the likely reason behind the violence. Such cases linked to dowry demands remain common in parts of the country despite legal bans.

Investigation and Arrests Police launched a search for the fleeing suspects soon after the incident. In follow-up actions, officers arrested Sana’s mother-in-law. The father-in-law remains at large, and a priority operation continues to track him down. Authorities have registered a case and promised thorough action.

Local people reacted with strong anger to the news. Residents in the area called for fast-track justice and harsh penalties to stop similar acts. The case has once again drawn attention to the dangers women face from dowry-related harassment in family settings.
