Major Oil Shipment Reaches Karachi

Two oil tankers carrying 100 to 120 million liters of oil have arrived safely in Karachi from Fujairah, UAE, under the escort of the Pakistan Navy. This delivery arrives at a time when regional tensions in the Middle East are raising worries about fuel supplies for Pakistan and the wider world.

The Pakistan National Shipping Corporation (PNSC) vessels docked in Karachi on Friday, March 13, 2026, after a secure journey protected by naval warships. Officials confirmed the ships brought a substantial cargo of oil, estimated between 100 million and 120 million liters, which is vital for meeting the country’s daily energy requirements.

The escort became necessary due to recent incidents involving attacks on ships near Fujairah and broader risks in key maritime areas like the Persian Gulf. These events have heightened concerns over the safety of trade routes that Pakistan relies on heavily for oil imports.

In response to the changing security situation, the Pakistan Navy started Operation Muhafiz-ul-Bahr earlier this week on March 9. The operation focuses on protecting national shipping, ensuring steady energy flows, and securing sea lines of communication. Navy ships are working closely with PNSC to monitor and guide merchant vessels through potential trouble spots.

Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs Muhammad Junaid Anwar praised the Navy’s efforts in securing the safe passage of the two tankers. He noted that the government has asked the Foreign Office to reach out to Iran regarding two other vessels currently held up in the Persian Gulf, seeking assistance to get them released and moving again.

PNSC representatives described the shipment as a key step toward maintaining stability in Pakistan’s energy sector. With the country depending on sea routes for most of its oil needs, timely arrivals like this help avoid shortages and support consistent supply chains.

The arrival follows reports of rising global oil prices and supply worries linked to the ongoing Middle East crisis. Pakistan’s government has stressed that current petroleum stocks remain adequate, with more cargoes in the pipeline to keep things running smoothly in the weeks ahead.
