New Air Link: Pakistan and Bangladesh to Connect Directly Soon

Direct flights between Pakistan and Bangladesh are set to resume in January, with services linking Karachi and Dhaka expected to restart after years of suspension.

This comes after Pakistan’s High Commissioner to Bangladesh, Imran Haider, met Bangladesh’s Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus in Dhaka on December 28, 2025. During the courtesy call at the State Guest House, Haider indicated that direct air links could begin next month, a move seen as part of broader efforts to strengthen ties between the two nations.

The meeting focused on ways to deepen cooperation across several areas. Both sides reviewed plans to expand trade, investment, aviation links, and people-to-people contacts. They also discussed boosting cultural, educational, and medical exchanges within the SAARC framework.

Haider pointed out that bilateral trade has risen by about 20% over the past year. Business groups in both countries are now looking into new investment options.

He noted growing interest from Bangladeshi students in Pakistani universities, especially in fields like medical sciences, artificial intelligence, and nanotechnology. There has also been an uptick in Bangladeshi patients seeking specialized treatments in Pakistan, such as liver and kidney transplants. Pakistani officials have offered to provide training and academic support in these medical areas.

Professor Yunus welcomed the closer engagement and stressed the value of more travel and exchanges among SAARC countries. He expressed hope for further trade growth and new joint business ventures during Haider’s time in office.
