The Kutchery Chowk flyovers and underpasses in Rawalpindi are on track to open for traffic before Eidul Fitr, officials from the Frontier Works Organisation (FWO) have confirmed.
This comes as part of the Rs14 billion remodelling project at one of Rawalpindi’s most crowded intersections. The goal is to reduce daily traffic jams and create a smoother flow for thousands of vehicles.
Progress on the main project stands at about 70 percent. Asphalt laying is currently underway on the roads. Beautification efforts by the Parks and Horticulture Authority (PHA) have started, with teams planting trees, creating green belts, and putting up lampposts along the flyovers and underpasses. Lighting work is also in progress.
A recent inspection looked at key elements, including how traffic would move once finished. Officials checked how heavy vehicles, including e-buses, would handle the new layout and suggested small changes to the design where needed.
Executive Engineer Punjab Highways Rana Qamar Ali Saqib said the entire Kutchery Chowk work should wrap up by April 30. Drain construction begins this week, and three sump wells are already in place to direct rainwater to nearby drains.
Nespak has completed the final designs for these underpasses, along with service roads and U-turns. The focus remains on meeting future traffic needs while keeping high standards.
Work on the Peshawar Road underpasses starts formally on March 28. Traffic will be managed with diversions to keep two-way movement possible during construction.
The full project follows directives from the Punjab Chief Minister and targets completion within 70 days from key milestones, aiming for the end of June 2026 overall.

These upgrades should bring noticeable relief to commuters in Rawalpindi once the flyovers and underpasses open before Eid, with the rest following soon after.
