Karachi Gets New Electric Bus Route from Gulshan-e-Iqbal to Tower

The Sindh government has introduced a new electric bus route in Karachi, running from Gulshan-e-Iqbal to Tower, as part of efforts to strengthen public transport ahead of Eid.

Karachi, March 13, 2026 – Sindh Senior Minister for Information, Transport, and Mass Transit Sharjeel Inam Memon has confirmed the launch of fresh electric vehicle (EV) bus services in the city. The initial route connects Gulshan-e-Iqbal to Tower, aimed at giving residents a cleaner and more dependable travel choice during the busy Eid period.

The decision followed a recent meeting of the Transport and Mass Transit Department. Authorities also cleared the way for extra double-decker buses and more EV units to join the fleet, addressing daily commuting demands across Karachi.

Minister Memon pointed out that the Peoples Bus Service, already running in parts of the province, will reach additional cities in phases. Plans include Hyderabad, Tando Allahyar, Sukkur, and Shikarpur, where people can expect similar affordable rides.

Road Conditions and Future Steps

Department officials noted ongoing problems with road quality that sometimes slow bus services. The minister said his team will work with other government departments to fix these matters. Priority will go to major roads in Karachi for repairs and improvements.

After Eid, an official agreement is set between Sindh Bank, the Sindh Enterprise Development Fund (SEDF), and the Sindh Mass Transit Authority (SMTA). This memorandum of understanding will back the continued growth of EV bus operations.
