Jhelum Electric Buses Now Running Longer Hours for Students

Jhelum – Residents of Jhelum can now use electric buses for longer each day, with services running from early morning until late evening. This change, directed by Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, focuses on helping students reach schools and colleges more easily while giving the public a cleaner travel option.

The electric bus service began operations in Jhelum on December 18, 2025, as part of the Punjab government’s push for green public transport. Officials extended the daily schedule to 6:00 AM to 10:00 PM after receiving requests from students and families. These quiet, zero-emission buses replace older diesel vehicles and aim to cut air pollution in the district.

The buses run on three main routes, connecting key spots like hospitals, colleges, residential areas, and nearby towns. They offer comfortable seating and reliable rides at low cost — most reports mention a flat fare around Rs 20 per trip.

Buses run daily within the set hours, with stops designed to serve busy areas. The longer timings especially help students who attend early classes or stay late for extra activities.

This service forms part of a larger plan across Punjab to introduce electric buses in multiple districts. Jhelum received an initial fleet of about 15 buses, following similar rollouts in places like Rawalpindi. The government plans to add more buses and routes over time to reach more people.
