Islamabad authorities have put in place a detailed traffic plan to keep roads running smoothly and ensure safety as residents welcome 2026.
More than 350 traffic police officers will be on duty across the capital’s main roads and busy spots on New Year’s Eve.
The plan bans all heavy vehicles from entering the city starting at 7:00 pm on December 31 until 3:00 am on January 1.
Police expect heavier than usual traffic on several major routes. These include the Islamabad Expressway, Jinnah Avenue, Srinagar Highway, Club Road, Murree Road, and Park Road.
Certain areas could face extra delays. Drivers should watch out around the Jinnah Avenue Flyover, Zero Point, Khanna Pull, and the PWD underpass.
To stop dangerous stunts like one-wheeling and reckless driving, eight special squads will patrol the streets. Anyone caught will face firm action under the law.

Parents received a direct appeal from officials: keep children away from driving, especially underage riders.
Extra teams will monitor popular spots where people gather for celebrations. Residents are asked to take other roads if possible between 7:00 pm and 3:00 am.
Roadside parking will not be allowed during these hours to avoid blocks and help emergency access.
An Islamabad Traffic Police spokesperson said the measures aim to let everyone enjoy the night while keeping roads safe and orderly.
