Quetta – The Balochistan government has partnered with the National Bank of Pakistan (NBP) to roll out a new program that makes electric scooters available on easy installment plans with subsidies. The move targets students, working women, government employees, and the general public to improve daily travel while promoting cleaner transport options.
The agreement came through a memorandum of understanding signed at the Chief Minister’s Secretariat in Quetta. Chief Minister Mir Sarfaraz Bugti led the event, joined by Provincial Minister Mir Sadiq Umrani, other senior officials from the province, and NBP representatives.
Key Details of the Scheme
The program focuses on making commuting safer and more affordable, especially in areas where transport options remain limited. It offers electric scooters (often referred to as e-bikes in reports) through bank financing, with the government providing support to lower costs.
- Students and working women stand out as main beneficiaries, with added emphasis on their safety and convenience.
- Government employees also qualify for subsidized access.
- Ordinary citizens can join via installment payments.
- A reported 30% government subsidy applies in some categories, helping reduce the upfront burden (based on cabinet approvals earlier this month).
Chief Minister Bugti highlighted the practical side of the initiative during the signing. He explained that it addresses everyday travel difficulties and pushes for the use of environment-friendly vehicles. He described it as part of the provincial government’s broader push to improve living standards and back inclusive growth, particularly for youth and women.

The chief minister stressed that Balochistan remains committed to projects that bring real, lasting benefits to residents and contribute to the province’s social and economic progress.
Background and Context
This step follows a cabinet decision in early January 2026, where the provincial government approved the e-bike subsidy alongside other public welfare measures. It joins similar efforts in other parts of Pakistan aimed at expanding access to electric mobility and cutting reliance on traditional fuels.
