The Punjab government has given the go-ahead to a revised plan for a floating restaurant along the Lahore Canal, pushing the project’s budget up from Rs350 million to Rs540 million.
This new attraction will cover a one-kilometer section of the canal. Visitors can look forward to meals with views of the water, plus a fresh spot for family outings and picnics.
The Parks and Horticulture Authority (PHA) put forward the updated proposal to the Housing Department. It earned the nod from the Housing Secretary after internal clearances were already in place.
Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz first signed off on the idea back in August. The entire cost will come from provincial funds.
Normally, the Housing Secretary can approve projects only up to Rs80 million. But this one got special clearance because of its role as a key project to draw tourists.

Why This Matters
The restaurant fits into larger efforts by the Punjab government to upgrade public spaces in Lahore. Officials hope it will bring more visitors to the city and improve options for leisure.
Work can now move ahead after months of waiting for final approval.
