Pakistan Unveils SMASH Hypersonic Missile at World Defense Show 2026

Pakistan has introduced a new hypersonic missile called SMASH at the World Defense Show in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. The weapon, developed by Global Industrial & Defence Solutions (GIDS), can target ships at sea and fixed positions on land, with a range of 290 kilometers in both modes.

The unveiling took place during the ongoing World Defense Show 2026, which runs from February 8 to 12 in the Saudi capital. Pakistan’s defense delegation, including senior officials, is participating actively in the event.

Key Features of the SMASH Missile

GIDS describes SMASH as a dual-role system built on one platform for different missions. This design helps cut down on training needs and supply chain demands.

  • Anti-ship version:
    • Range: 290 km
    • Warhead: 384 kg
    • Guidance: HD GNSS-assisted inertial navigation plus active radar seeker for moving targets
    • Propulsion: Single-stage dual-thrust solid rocket motor
    • Speed in final phase: Over Mach 2
    • Accuracy: Circular error probable (CEP) of 10 meters or better
  • Land-attack version:
    • Range: 290 km
    • Warhead: 444 kg (heavier payload)
    • Guidance: HD GNSS-assisted inertial navigation
    • Same propulsion system
    • Accuracy: CEP of 15 meters or better
    • Speed: Exceeds Mach 2 in terminal phase

The missile uses a near-vertical descent path in its attack, which company officials say makes it harder for current air defense systems to intercept.

Analysts point out that countries in the Middle East and nearby areas are looking for longer-range weapons that can hit precise targets in defended zones. SMASH fits into that trend by offering quick response and strong penetration against threats.

GIDS highlights the missile’s ability to handle both naval and ground roles without major changes, which keeps costs lower for operators.
