Islamabad Expands M-Tag Facilities, Adds New Center at Rawat

Islamabad authorities have opened a new M-Tag registration center at Rawat to help more vehicle owners get their tags quickly. The move comes as part of ongoing efforts to make the electronic toll system smoother and ensure all vehicles entering the capital comply with the rules.

The Deputy Commissioner’s office announced the update on January 22, 2026. Drivers can now get M-Tag services at this new spot, located at the bus stop on the main expressway just outside the Institute of Space Technology (IST). This brings the total number of M-Tag centers in Islamabad to 19.

Two locations now provide round-the-clock service: 26 No. Chungi and the 17 Mile Phagraan Toll Plaza. These operate every day, at any time. Service hours have also been extended at Kachnar Park in Sector I-8 and F-9 Park, where centers stay open until midnight.

Why M-Tag Matters M-Tags have been required for vehicles entering Islamabad since early January 2026. Automated readers at entry points check for tags to speed up traffic flow and cut down on delays. Officials stress that without an active M-Tag, vehicles face restrictions at multiple checkpoints.

The new Rawat center targets commuters and travelers using the expressway routes. It aims to reduce crowds at other spots and make the process more convenient for people in that area.

Where to Get Your M-Tag

  • 24/7 centers: 26 No. Chungi, 17 Mile Phagraan Toll Plaza
  • Extended hours (until 12:00 AM): Kachnar Park (I-8), F-9 Park
  • New center: Rawat bus stop (main expressway, outside IST)

Motorists should bring their original CNIC and vehicle registration documents when visiting any center. Authorities urge drivers to get tagged soon to avoid issues at entry points.

This step follows earlier expansions and reflects the administration’s focus on better traffic management in the capital.
