Islamabad has opened a new M-Tag registration center on N-5 near Margalla to help more vehicle owners comply with the mandatory tagging rule. This brings the total number of such centers in the capital to 18. Authorities are now stopping vehicles without M-Tags at 12 entry points, and officials are asking drivers to get tagged right away to avoid trouble.

The Islamabad Capital Territory administration continues its push to fit all vehicles with M-Tags for better traffic control and security. The latest center at N-5 Margalla was set up following an announcement by the Deputy Commissioner. It aims to make registration easier for people in that area and reduce lines at other spots.
Director General Excise and Taxation, Irfan Memon, stressed the need for quick action. He said citizens should head to one of the centers soon to prevent penalties or delays on the road.
Latest Numbers and Enforcement
As of January 19, 2026, a total of 169,538 vehicles in Islamabad have received M-Tags. This marks steady progress since the drive began, with thousands added each day. Checkpoints remain active at multiple city entry points, where readers scan for tags and stop non-compliant vehicles.
The system helps manage traffic flow, improve record-keeping, and boost overall security in the federal capital. Vehicles already fitted with motorway M-Tags do not need an extra tag.

What Drivers Need to Do
To register, bring your original CNIC and vehicle registration documents to any center. Some locations, like those at 26 Number Chungi and Satra Meel, now operate 24/7 to handle more people.
