Murree Braces for Heavy Snowfall from January 17 to 21

Murree, Pakistan – Authorities in Murree have issued warnings about heavy snowfall expected in the popular hill station from January 17 to January 21, 2026. This weather system could bring intense snow to several areas, raising concerns over road safety and travel disruptions.

The Pakistan Meteorological Department and local officials predict a prolonged spell of snow across Murree and nearby Galliyat regions during this period. Recent forecasts from sources like the National Weather Forecasting Centre point to wintry conditions strengthening in the second half of January, with similar alerts from the NDMA covering northern areas until around January 22.

Key spots identified as high-risk include Lower Topa, Jhika Gali, Kuldhana Chowk, and Kashmir Point. These locations face higher chances of slippery roads, traffic jams, and sudden emergencies due to accumulating snow and ice.

The Smart Safe City Murree system has gone on full alert. It uses real-time monitoring, smart traffic controls, drone oversight, and quick-response teams to handle any issues. Officials say monitoring staff will stay active 24/7 to respond fast if problems arise.

  • Avoid travel in high-risk zones unless necessary.
  • Drive carefully on mountain roads and use winter tires or chains if possible.
