ISLAMABAD: The federal government plans to launch reconstruction on the flood-damaged N-95 Kalam Road in Swat within the next three months.
Parliamentary Secretary for Communications Gul Asghar Khan Baghoor shared the update in the National Assembly on Wednesday while answering a calling attention notice from MNA Amjad Ali Khan.
The 133-kilometre Chakdara to Kalam road suffered heavy damage in the 2022 floods. The worst section spans about six kilometres, leaving local commuters with ongoing travel problems for years.
Funding Details
- Rs. 415 million already approved for the project
- Rs. 276 million additionally allocated
- Rs. 950 million proposed in the coming federal budget
The government has regularly released maintenance funds to the Frontier Works Organization (FWO) to keep the road usable in different seasons. However, the most affected six-kilometre portion needs complete rebuilding rather than simple repairs.
Current Status of the Project
Baghoor told the house that site visits, technical discussions, and committee reviews are almost finished. The scheme has now entered its final preparation stage before actual work starts on the ground.

The road serves as a vital link for residents and tourists in the upper Swat region. Persistent damage since the 2022 floods has affected daily travel and local economic activity, particularly tourism.
Officials have completed most technical groundwork. Work is expected to focus first on the critical six-kilometre section that requires full rebuilding.
