LAHORE: The Punjab government has introduced a new way for people with special needs to get assistive devices without leaving their homes. Through the Tell Maryam app, residents can now apply for wheelchairs, hearing aids and similar equipment with just a few taps on their phone.
This move forms part of broader efforts to use technology for public services. Officials say the app removes old hurdles like repeated office visits, long waits and paperwork delays that often affected those with limited mobility.
How the application process works
The system follows a straightforward six-step method:
- Open the Tell Maryam app and choose the Assistive Devices and Wheelchair section.
- Enter basic personal details such as name, CNIC number and phone number.
- Provide complete address and district information.
- Select the required device from the available list.
- Upload supporting documents, including a disability certificate and a recent photo.
- Submit the application.
Once submitted, the request goes into the system for processing. The government has stressed that the digital route brings more transparency and quicker delivery of equipment.
Focus on accessibility
Provincial authorities, including the Social Welfare department, aim to reach thousands of deserving individuals who need support for daily mobility and hearing. The app prioritizes applications from persons with disabilities, widows and other vulnerable groups.
The initiative ties into the wider Maryam Ko Batayn platform, which also handles financial assistance and public complaints through helpline 1000, web portal and the mobile app.
Official push for digital welfare
Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has backed several digital projects to improve service delivery. This assistive devices feature builds on that approach by bringing help directly to citizens’ doorsteps.
Applications remain open, and the government is encouraging eligible residents to use the facility. No office visit is required, making the process easier for those who need it most.
