Train Services from Quetta Halted Over Security Fears

Quetta, Pakistan — Pakistan Railways has stopped all train departures from Quetta to other parts of the country due to heightened security risks in Balochistan. The move follows a series of recent attacks and threats targeting railway lines, leaving many passengers stranded and forcing authorities to prioritize safety.

Major routes affected include the Jaffar Express to Peshawar and Punjab, the Bolan Mail to Karachi, and the Chaman Passenger train to Chaman. Services in both directions have been impacted, with incoming trains like the Jaffar Express from Peshawar halted at stations such as Jacobabad.

Railway officials made the decision after assessing intelligence reports and recent incidents in the province. In late January 2026, security operations in areas like Harnai and Panjgur resulted in clashes with armed groups, adding to ongoing concerns. Past events have included blasts on tracks near Sibi, Machh, and other sections, which damaged infrastructure and led to temporary halts.

A railway controller in Quetta division stated that no risks would be taken with passenger lives. Teams are working with law enforcement and security agencies to inspect tracks, clear threats, and carry out necessary repairs.

Passengers with booked tickets can approach reservation offices for full refunds or changes to their travel plans once operations resume.

The repeated disruptions highlight the challenges in maintaining safe rail links through Balochistan, a region that has seen persistent security issues affecting transport. Travelers often face long delays or turn to road travel, which can be more expensive and time-consuming.

Officials have not given a firm date for resumption. Services will return only after full security clearance and confirmation that tracks are safe.
