Pakistan’s bowling coach Ashley Noffke is confident that star pacer Shaheen Afridi is close to regaining his top form ahead of the UAE tri-series and Asia Cup 2025. Speaking today, August 26, 2025, Noffke highlighted Afridi’s progress in overcoming a 2023 knee injury that affected his bowling speed.
Afridi’s Journey Back to Form
Shaheen Afridi, a key figure in Pakistan’s bowling lineup, faced challenges earlier this year. Despite a strong showing in the Pakistan Super League (PSL), he was excluded from two T20I series against Bangladesh due to concerns about his bowling. However, Afridi responded by claiming six wickets in Pakistan’s white-ball series against the West Indies, earning his place in the upcoming UAE tri-series and the 2025 Asia Cup.

Positive Signs in Training
During a training session in Dubai today, Noffke noted improvements in Afridi’s performance. “His speed dropped after the injury, but we’re now seeing more deliveries in the 140s kph, which is a great sign,” he said. Afridi’s average bowling speed this year is 134.5 kph, with only 4% of his deliveries hitting 140 kph, compared to his peak in the mid-140s. Noffke emphasized efforts to restore Afridi’s signature swing bowling, which has been a hallmark of his career.
Focus on Swing and Consistency
Noffke stressed the importance of Afridi’s ability to swing the ball both ways. “When he gets the ball moving, he’s a real threat,” the coach said. While Afridi’s strike power remains strong, Noffke believes he must maintain focus to reach his full potential as a world-class bowler.

Upcoming Challenges
Afridi’s next test comes this Friday in Sharjah against Afghanistan in the UAE tri-series. A strong showing could boost Pakistan’s confidence heading into the Asia Cup next month. With his ability to trouble opening batters, Afridi remains a cornerstone of Pakistan’s bowling attack.
Looking Ahead
Noffke praised Afridi’s talent but urged consistency. “His record speaks for itself, but he’s working hard to be the best,” he said. As Pakistan gears up for crucial tournaments, all eyes will be on Afridi to deliver match-winning performances.
