Punjab Rolls Out Free Wi-Fi to Over 1,400 Spots

Punjab is getting more connected every day. The provincial government has grown its CM Free Wi-Fi Service to over 1,400 spots across the region. This comes from orders by Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif. The Punjab Safe Cities Authority (PSCA) runs the program.

In Lahore, the network reaches 442 places. Over 58 million people have used it so far. They have pulled down about 1,191 terabytes of data. The service now works in 23 districts at 952 public areas. These spots are busy hubs where folks need quick internet.

Growth in Lahore and Beyond

Lahore’s hotspots jumped from 230 to over 430 in recent months. Now at 442, they cover markets, parks, and stations. The full count hits 1,400+ when adding other districts like Kasur, Sialkot, Gujrat, and Sahiwal.

The setup focuses on key public sites. This helps daily tasks like checking news or calling home.

Wi-Fi Reaches Women’s Colleges

A fresh addition brings free Wi-Fi to 450 government women’s colleges statewide. Leaders say it gives students better tools for learning. It also boosts safety by linking to emergency apps fast.

Tech Upgrades for Better Service

The network now uses Wi-Fi 6. This brings quicker speeds and less wait time, even in packed spots. It handles more users without slowdowns.

Hotspots stay free for must-needs like schoolwork, emails, and government sites. Filters block videos and fun streams to keep the flow smooth.

A Step to Close the Digital Gap

This push fits Punjab’s plan for a wired-up future. It cuts the split between those with and without net access. More links mean stronger learning and safer streets.

PSCA keeps adding spots to meet needs. The service started small but grew fast under CM Sharif’s lead.

The program ties into Digital Punjab goals. It offers net for rides, chats, and safety apps too.

Free Wi-Fi changes how Punjab folks stay linked. From quick school help to safe calls, it serves real needs. Watch nawatimes.com for more on local tech wins.
