The Punjab government has set April 30, 2026, as the final date for opening the major Kachehri Chowk infrastructure project in Rawalpindi to traffic. This large-scale effort includes flyovers and underpasses that will create a signal-free route from Kachehri Chowk to Motorway Chowk, aiming to cut down heavy daily congestion in one of the city’s busiest areas.

The Communication and Works (C&W) Department, which handles the project, reports steady progress with teams working in three shifts around the clock. Key parts under construction cover the Jinnah Park Underpass and Flyover, the Kachehri Chowk Underpass and Flyover, plus widening along Iftikhar Janjua Road.

Superintending Engineer Rao Tahir noted that once finished, the full junction at Kachehri Chowk will open to all vehicles. He described it as a key step forward for Rawalpindi’s road network.

The entire project carries a cost of Rs13.33 billion. Officials expect the main structures to allow traffic flow by the end of April 2026. Some sources mention the broader signal-free corridor along connected routes may see full use slightly later, around June or July, but the core deadline for opening the junction remains April 30.

This work targets one of Rawalpindi’s most crowded spots, where thousands of vehicles pass each day. The additions should shorten travel times and ease routine jams for commuters heading toward areas like Saddar, GT Road, and the Islamabad Expressway links.
