No More Long Queues: Punjab’s Mobile License Service Success

This service, part of efforts to make government processes simpler and more reachable, has already helped more than 140,000 residents in just the last two months. Officials say the numbers show clear public demand for these convenient options.

Key Figures from Recent Months

  • Around 51,000 people got learner permits.
  • About 70,000 obtained new regular driving licenses.
  • Roughly 25,000 renewed their current licenses.

A government spokesperson highlighted that the program follows the directions of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif. It focuses on delivering public services quickly and supporting greater participation by women.

Special Pink Mobile Units, meant only for female applicants, run in major cities including Lahore, Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Faisalabad, Sialkot, and Multan. Through these, close to 24,000 women have received help so far — including 7,000 learner permits and 6,000 full regular licenses.

The Blue units serve the general public, while the Pink ones provide a dedicated, comfortable space for women. This split aims to address common barriers many face in accessing such services.

The initiative ties into broader changes in Punjab’s driving license system, including digital tools through the DLIMS portal and earlier mobile van deployments that started with fewer units and expanded over time.

By bringing teams directly to neighborhoods, the government hopes to cut travel time, reduce wait periods, and encourage more licensed drivers on the roads.

No immediate details were shared on future expansion beyond the current 27 districts, but officials describe it as a continuing push for better access.
