In response to the devastating floods ravaging Punjab, Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has directed the establishment of tent cities across 19 flood-affected villages in Alipur tehsil. Announced on September 20, 2025, this initiative provides immediate shelter and essential support to displaced families, with relief supplies already being distributed to ease the crisis.
Relief Efforts Underway
The floods, triggered by heavy monsoon rains, have inundated 26 villages in Alipur, displacing over 394,000 people across Muzaffargarh district. CM Maryam Nawaz Sharif’s directive prioritizes proximity, setting up tent cities near victims’ homes to minimize relocation stress. Supplies include food, clean drinking water, dry rations, and fodder for livestock, ensuring comprehensive aid.
Each tent city features a “Clinic on Wheels” and a field hospital, providing on-site medical care for common flood-related ailments like waterborne diseases. Rescue 1122 teams are delivering essentials via boats to hard-to-reach areas, while 37 relief camps operate alongside the new setups.
During a recent visit to Alipur, the CM inspected operations at Government High School and distributed compensation cheques to affected families, reaffirming the government’s commitment to full rehabilitation.

Broader Flood Response
The Alipur effort is part of a province-wide strategy, with similar camps in Jhang, Bahawalnagar, and Pakpattan. Senior Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb and Health Minister Khawaja Salman Rafique have overseen distributions, including special meals and livestock feed. The CM has praised the Pakistan Navy’s role in rescues and vowed against any shortfall in aid.

Community Impact
These measures offer immediate relief to thousands, with over 147 villages affected in Muzaffargarh alone. While floods have eased in some areas, recovery remains a priority, with plans for long-term rehabilitation.
