The Punjab government is moving forward with a plan to buy two bulletproof vehicles for senior provincial ministers Marriyum Aurangzeb and Azma Bukhari. The proposed purchase, valued at around Rs 40 million, comes after security agencies flagged the need for better protection due to the ministers’ active roles in public events, media interactions, and political duties.
Proposal Under Review
Government sources indicate that a detailed summary has been sent to the relevant department for approval, following standard procurement procedures. The vehicles in question are described as double-cabin, four-by-four models designed for enhanced security.
This step forms part of a larger initiative where the Punjab administration aims to acquire 108 new vehicles worth Rs 1.14 billion this fiscal year. The fleet will serve ministers, senior bureaucrats, and inspection teams. Earlier approvals covered 25 vehicles specifically for VIP security duties.
Officials stress that providing adequate security to public officeholders remains a core government duty, particularly when threat assessments point to risks. Punjab has a history of supplying armored transport to key figures based on similar evaluations.
Broader Context and Reactions
The decision arrives amid ongoing security concerns across the province. Recent directives from Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz have called for tighter measures at public places, religious sites, markets, and borders in response to regional threats.
At the same time, the vehicle purchases—including the bulletproof ones—have drawn attention to spending priorities. Some public discussions on social media and news platforms question the allocation of funds for high-end official transport during economic pressures.

No final approval has been confirmed yet for the specific bulletproof vehicles for the two ministers, though related proposals for other fleet additions have advanced.
