Maryam Nawaz Announces 250,000 Acres Free for Jobless Punjabis

The Punjab government has launched a major initiative called Apna Khet Apna Rozgar to provide free agricultural land to poor and unemployed residents. Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif announced the scheme on February 5, 2026, during an event in Rajanpur, where she outlined plans to distribute 250,000 acres of state-owned land.

Under the program, eligible people will get between 3 to 5 acres each at no cost. The land is meant only for farming, with the goal of helping families build a steady income through agriculture. The scheme targets those who lack jobs or come from low-income backgrounds, aiming to cut rural poverty and support self-reliance.

Key Details of the Scheme

The Punjab cabinet first approved the program in late January 2026. It starts with allotting land to around 50,000 people in the initial phase. The full rollout covers 250,000 acres across the province’s districts.

Beneficiaries will also get support beyond the land:

  • A Kisan Card for buying seeds, fertilizers, and pesticides on better terms.
  • Access to Centres of Excellence in every tehsil for training in modern farming methods.

These steps aim to help new farmers succeed and increase overall farm production in Punjab.

Who Can Apply?

While full official guidelines are still being finalized, early reports point to these basic requirements:

  • Must be a permanent resident of Punjab with valid CNIC.
  • Should be unemployed or from a low-income family.
  • No ownership of significant agricultural land (landless status will be checked through records).
  • Priority may go to those with some farming experience or background.
  • Selection could use data from the Punjab Socio-Economic Registry (PSER) for fairness.

The government has stressed a transparent process to reach the most deserving applicants.

How to Apply

The application system is not fully active yet, as details were announced only recently. Officials say more information on registration will come soon.

  • People may also submit forms at local agriculture extension offices or tehsil-level facilitation centers.
