PIA-Garuda Agreement Boosts Pakistan’s Global Trade

Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has signed a cargo agreement with Garuda Indonesia. This deal will help Pakistani exporters send goods more easily to several countries in Asia and beyond.

The Cargo Special Prorate Agreement (SPA) between the two national airlines focuses on better cargo handling and connections. It starts in January 2026 and runs until July 2027.

Cargo from Pakistan will travel to Jakarta through stops in Jeddah and Kuala Lumpur. This setup opens up routes to important cities like Sydney, Melbourne, Singapore, Hong Kong, and Bangkok. Exporters will find it simpler to reach markets in China (such as Shanghai and Guangzhou), South Korea (Seoul), and Australia.

A PIA spokesperson explained that the agreement gives exporters lower freight costs and faster handling. It aims to increase Pakistan’s exports and grow the airline’s cargo services.

This step follows PIA’s recent gains in international cargo. Last year, the airline received a cargo licence from the United Kingdom’s Department for Transport after a full review.

The partnership comes as both airlines work to improve their networks. Garuda Indonesia has been rebuilding its operations and adding links in the region.
