Weather Department Predicts Light Snowfall in Northern Areas

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued a forecast indicating light snowfall at isolated spots in the northern highlands, while cold and dry conditions are set to continue across much of the country.

Light Snow Likely in Parts of Gilgit-Baltistan and Nearby Areas

The Met Office reports that partly cloudy skies will cover hilly regions, bringing very cold mornings and nights. In Gilgit-Baltistan, some places could see light rain mixed with snowfall. Similar brief showers or flurries may affect districts like Chitral and nearby valleys in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa under cloudy conditions.

Elsewhere, dry weather dominates. Islamabad and surrounding areas will stay dry, though chilly at the start and end of the day, with possible gusty winds during afternoon hours.

In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, most areas remain cold and dry, especially the upper parts where temperatures drop sharply early and late. Punjab expects dry conditions overall, with hill stations like Murree and Galiyat staying cold. Strong winds may pick up in central and southern plains during the day.

Karachi and other parts of Sindh will see mostly dry weather. Balochistan largely follows the same pattern, but northern districts face colder nights and early mornings. Kashmir holds partly cloudy skies with very low nighttime temperatures.

Recent Low Temperatures Recorded

Over the past 24 hours, cold and dry weather covered most regions. The coldest spots included:

  • Leh: -9°C
  • Astore: -5°C
  • Kalam: -3°C

Several other northern locations dipped to -2°C. Major cities recorded cool mornings turning into mild afternoons, in line with the winter season so far.

Outlook and Advice

The PMD states this cold, dry pattern should hold for the next few days. Northern mountainous zones face the highest chance of snowfall and freezing weather.

Travelers heading to northern areas should check updates before trips, as light precipitation can affect roads in higher elevations.
