Pakistan has introduced a new home charging system for electric vehicle owners, making it easier for people to charge EVs at home as more of them appear on roads.

Islamabad, February 20, 2026 — With over 76,000 electric vehicles now registered in Pakistan — including about 50,000 electric motorcycles — authorities and private distributors have brought in home charging units to support daily use.

Malik Khuda Bakhsh, who heads the Energy Committee at the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) and serves as chairman of the Pakistan Business Forum’s Sindh zone, pointed out these figures. He noted that chargers made in Britain are now sold through official local partners.

Buyers can get these chargers in cash or on easy monthly payments. Prices fall between Rs150,000 and Rs250,000, based on the type and power level.

This step comes as the government works to increase electric vehicle numbers. Officials target 30% of new vehicles sold to be electric by 2030, part of the New Energy Vehicle Policy.

Local production of electric vehicles is set to start in 2026, with companies like BYD planning assembly plants near Karachi. That should lower costs by cutting imports over time.

Home chargers help owners plug in overnight, often during lower electricity demand hours. They fit well with solar setups at home, which many households already use.

The government offers tax breaks and lower duties on EVs and parts to speed up adoption. Plans also include thousands of public charging points nationwide.

The FPCCI encourages people interested in EVs to look at these home options. They see it as a way to build a cleaner transport system and grow the local market.
