‘One Punjab, One Standard’: CM Punjab Announces Uniform Infrastructure Policy

The Punjab government has introduced a major new policy to bring consistent standards to infrastructure and urban design across the entire province. Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif approved the “One Punjab, One Standard” initiative on February 25, 2026, during a high-level meeting in Lahore. The move aims to create uniform development in cities, towns, and rural areas alike, reducing differences in appearance and quality.

Key Decisions from the Meeting

The chief minister chaired the session where officials presented plans for better-organized urban spaces. Among the main steps:

  • A dedicated unit for standardization and urban design will be set up.
  • In principle, an autonomous authority will oversee urban planning and enforce these uniform rules province-wide.
  • Authorities must prepare a full design manual to guide all future construction and visual elements.

Standardized designs will apply to public buildings and facilities such as schools, hospitals, bus stops, and other government structures. This ensures they look similar and well-planned no matter the location.

The policy also targets everyday urban features to cut down on disorderly appearances. Uniform rules will cover roadside kiosks, small shops, roads, footpaths, green belts, and signboards. The goal is to improve cleanliness, safety, and overall appeal in public areas.

CM’s Emphasis on Better Cities

Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif stressed the importance of consistent road furniture and infrastructure for both function and looks. She said uniform standards help make cities more attractive and give Punjab a clear, modern identity. The government wants safe, well-designed public spaces available to every resident.
