CDA Launches Margalla Enclave–Park Road Underpass Project

The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has kicked off construction on a new underpass linking Margalla Enclave to Park Road in Islamabad. This step aims to cut down traffic jams in one of the capital’s busiest and fastest-growing areas. With work now underway, the Islamabad Traffic Police (ITP) rolled out a clear diversion plan to help drivers avoid major hold-ups.

The underpass project targets better road connections for residents and commuters in the Margalla Enclave area, near sectors like Park View City. Officials expect the work to ease daily bottlenecks on Park Road, a main route for people heading toward Rawal Dam, Tramri, and other parts of the city.

Traffic Diversions in Place

To keep vehicles moving safely during construction, authorities set up these routes:

  • Traffic heading from Rawal Dam Chowk toward Tramri: Vehicles turn onto NIH Road, continue through Mohra Noor, then rejoin Park Road.
  • Traffic heading from Tramri toward Rawal Dam Chowk: Vehicles divert near Chai Khana, pass through the CDA Nursery area along the iron grill section, and merge back onto Park Road using temporary roads set up for the purpose.

Police stressed that these changes mainly affect peak travel times, when Park Road sees the heaviest flow.

Alternate Routes Recommended

Drivers can skip the construction zone altogether by choosing other paths:

  • Lehtrar Road
  • Khanna Pul
  • Islamabad Expressway

These options help spread out the traffic load and cut wait times for everyone.

ITP officials asked commuters to add 20–30 extra minutes to their usual travel schedule. They also reminded people to watch for road signs, listen to traffic wardens on site, and stay patient while officers manage flow in the area.

The construction period will see police teams present throughout to direct vehicles and handle any issues quickly.

This underpass forms part of ongoing CDA efforts to upgrade infrastructure in Islamabad’s expanding zones. Similar projects in recent years have helped reduce congestion in other busy spots across the city.
