The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has approved a Rs1 billion project to upgrade public parks in Peshawar. The move aims to create better recreational spaces for residents, with modern facilities and improved safety.
Chief Minister Mohammad Sohail Afridi gave the approval for the initiative. It focuses on revamping several parks across the city to make them more usable and welcoming for families, children, and people with disabilities.
Key Upgrades Planned
The project covers a range of improvements:
- Restoration of green lawns and advanced landscaping to revive natural areas.
- Installation of children’s swings and play equipment.
- Construction of functional washrooms and provision of clean drinking water.
- Addition of reading corners for quiet relaxation.
- Features for universal accessibility, so everyone including those with disabilities can use the spaces comfortably.
- Repairs to boundary walls, new benches, shaded areas, and completed footpaths.
- Energy-efficient LED lighting for better visibility and security at night.
- Tube wells and pipeline systems to ensure steady water supply for plants and maintenance.
These changes address long-standing issues in many Peshawar parks, such as poor maintenance, limited facilities, and safety concerns after dark.
Officials describe the effort as a step toward better urban living. It seeks to encourage people to spend time outdoors, support physical activity, and raise overall quality of life in the provincial capital.
