Karachi motorists face multiple road closures this week due to ongoing construction projects, including work on the Malir Expressway and local development.

The Karachi Traffic Police issued alerts on February 1, 2026, detailing temporary shutdowns and detours to minimize disruption in busy areas.

Jahangir Road Shutdown for One Week

Starting at midnight on February 1 (effectively February 2), Jahangir Road between Teen Hatti and Gurumandir will stay fully closed for seven days. This closure supports local infrastructure upgrades in the central district.

Suggested alternate paths for regular vehicles:

  • From Teen Hatti toward Gurumandir: Head to Jail Chowrangi → Nishtar Road → PIB Chowrangi → Jamshed Road.

Heavy and commercial vehicles face separate detours via Dak Khana Chowrangi to Askari Park or Nazimabad No. 1.

Traffic wardens will stay on duty in nearby zones to direct flow and handle issues.

Malir River Bridge Closure on Sunday

Both directions of the Malir River Bridge along the National Highway will shut down on Sunday, February 2, from 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM. The stoppage ties to construction on the Malir Expressway.

Drivers coming from Quaidabad should make a U-turn at Shahrah-e-Bhutto. A temporary diversion route operates near Moulvi Hotel, with police guidance available during busy periods.

In related updates:

  • The section from Ayesha Mosque toward Defence remains closed until further notice.
  • Travel from Ayesha Mosque to Creek continues normally with no changes.

Recommended Routes to Avoid Delays

Police suggest these paths to cut down on congestion in affected corridors:

  • Shahrah-e-Faisal to Defence: Use Korangi Road → Khayaban-e-Ittehad.
  • Traffic heading to Korangi: Take the Qayoomabad Chowrangi flyover over Malir Nadi.
  • From Shaheed-e-Millat to Defence: Opt for PT Flyover or the new Korangi flyover.

Authorities stress the need for extra travel time across the city. For live updates, motorists can dial the traffic helpline at 1915.
