Electric Bus Service Launched in Gujar Khan Today, Routes Announced

The Punjab government has launched the Gujar Khan Green Bus Service, bringing electric buses to the district for the first time.

Gujar Khan, February 16, 2026 — Residents of Gujar Khan now have access to a new fleet of electric buses as the Punjab government officially started the Green Bus Service today. The initiative introduces cleaner public transport to the area, with 15 modern electric buses hitting the roads on two key routes.

The buses run on these main paths:

  • One route links Gujar Khan to Rawat and continues to Rawalpindi.
  • The second route connects Gujar Khan to Sohawa and proceeds to Rawalpindi.

This setup gives commuters better options to reach Rawalpindi and nearby areas without relying solely on older transport modes.

Affordable Fares and Free Travel for Many

The standard fare is set at Rs. 20 per trip. In a move to support vulnerable groups, women, students, and senior citizens aged 60 and above can ride for free. Officials say this will ease the daily burden on families, especially those who travel regularly for work, school, or medical needs.

The buses include features such as air-conditioning, Wi-Fi, CCTV cameras, and ports for charging mobile phones. These additions aim to make journeys more comfortable and secure, building on similar services already running successfully in Rawalpindi and other parts of Punjab.

Plans for Growth and Broader Goals

Authorities have indicated that the fleet in Gujar Khan will grow to 40 buses or more in the coming months. This expansion should cover more areas and improve service frequency.

The launch forms part of Punjab’s larger push to upgrade public transport, cut down on road congestion, and shift toward low-emission options. Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif’s administration has rolled out electric buses across multiple districts in recent months, with hundreds already in use province-wide and more planned for 2026.
