Islamabad – The federal government is preparing to introduce a housing scheme that will provide residential plots to journalists in the capital city. Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi shared this update while speaking to reporters on Saturday, saying the plan is in advanced stages and an official announcement will come soon.
The minister explained that the Capital Development Authority (CDA) and the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting are jointly handling the project. He mentioned that Information Minister Ata Tarar had already discussed the matter with him. The aim is to offer relief to journalists from all parts of Pakistan by allocating plots in Islamabad.
Mr. Naqvi pointed out that the Punjab government has taken similar steps for journalists in the past, including housing initiatives through bodies like the Punjab Journalists Housing Foundation. Those efforts have provided plots and residential options in areas such as Lahore.
Sources familiar with the discussions have indicated that the federal scheme will focus on allocating residential plots. This move responds to years of requests from media workers for better welfare support, including housing. Many journalists have waited for such programs to deliver concrete results.
No exact timeline, plot numbers, or eligibility details have been released yet. Officials say the announcement will follow the completion of coordination between the relevant departments.

The proposal arrives at a time when journalists continue to seek improved facilities and recognition for their role in society. If finalized, the scheme could help address long-standing concerns about accommodation in the capital for media professionals from across the country.
