Punjab to Launch Metro Bus Service in Another Major City

Faisalabad authorities have shared a review of 2025 achievements and outlined plans ahead, with a major public transport upgrade on the horizon. A metro bus project worth Rs 81 billion is slated for launch soon, aiming to improve daily travel for residents in Punjab’s third-largest city.

Key Challenges and Responses in 2025

Commissioner Raja Jehangir Anwar spoke to reporters about the year’s difficulties. Heavy rains in June led to widespread flooding across the division.

Nearly 550 villages felt the impact, with Chiniot and Jhang districts hit hardest. Areas like Pir Mahal, Kamalia, and Tandlianwala also saw significant damage from the waters.

On the security front, officials worked closely with police and intelligence teams to address potential risks from a banned group. Quick coordination helped keep the situation under control, avoiding any large-scale problems.

Another big effort involved handling the return of Afghan nationals. About 2,000 people stayed temporarily in local holding centers before heading back home as per national guidelines.

Bright Spots: Cricket Returns and Strong Harvest

The city marked a milestone when international cricket came back after 17 years. Faisalabad’s Iqbal Stadium hosted three One-Day Internationals between Pakistan and South Africa in early November 2025.

Fans filled the stands for the series, and local teams managed security and arrangements smoothly, with no issues reported.

In farming news, growers in the division planted wheat on over 1.9 million acres. That topped the target of 1.83 million acres, boosting prospects for the crop.

As 2026 begins, the upcoming metro bus service stands out as a step toward better city mobility. Officials expect it to ease traffic and support growth in this industrial hub.
