Lahore’s historic Data Darbar shrine has begun accepting applications for Itikaf during the last ten days of Ramadan 2026. Devotees who wish to spend this sacred period in seclusion and worship at the shrine must apply soon, as the process includes strict checks and a firm deadline.
The Punjab Auqaf Department, which manages the shrine, set the last date for submissions as the 29th of Shaban. This falls just before Ramadan begins, giving applicants a limited window to prepare their paperwork.
Required Documents and Process
To apply, individuals need to submit:
- A written application
- Copy of their CNIC (Computerized National Identity Card)
- Recent passport-size photographs
- A valid medical certificate
- Police verification from their local police station
All applications go through a detailed security review. The documents are sent to the Special Branch for clearance. Only those who pass this step receive approval to join Itikaf at Data Darbar.
Applications are accepted only at a dedicated counter inside the Data Darbar premises in Lahore. No online submissions or applications from other locations are allowed. Officials stress that incomplete or incorrect forms are likely to be rejected during checking.
Why Data Darbar Draws Large Numbers
Data Darbar, the shrine of Hazrat Ali Hujwiri (Data Ganj Bakhsh), stands as one of Pakistan’s most visited spiritual sites. Each Ramadan, thousands come for prayers, especially during the final ten days when many observe Itikaf following the Sunnah of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).
With better security measures and a clear registration system this year, the authorities aim to ensure a calm and safe setting for worshippers.
Official Advice
Officials urge people to apply early and double-check all documents before visiting the counter. This helps avoid last-minute issues and increases the chance of approval.
