Chinese carmaker Chery has introduced its next-generation Super Hybrid plug-in system, claiming a combined range of up to 2,000 kilometers on a full petrol tank and a fully charged battery. The technology is expected to appear first in updated versions of the Tiggo 7, Tiggo 8, and Tiggo 9 SUVs starting late 2026.

The new hybrid setup pairs a 1.5-liter turbo petrol engine with an electric motor and a larger 18.46 kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery. Chery says the battery has better energy density and longer life than earlier versions. The petrol engine now reaches a thermal efficiency of 44.5 percent, which places it among the most efficient in its class.

Chery offers two power levels:

  • DHT160: 160 kW power and 275 Nm torque
  • DHT230: 260 kW power and 330 Nm torque (for larger SUVs)

Both versions use an improved transmission for smoother power delivery and better fuel economy.

This marks a big jump from Chery’s current Super Hybrid models, which already achieve around 1,200 km in real-world use. The new system aims to compete strongly in the long-range plug-in hybrid segment worldwide.

In Pakistan, Chery has already introduced the Tiggo 8 PHEV and Tiggo 9 PHEV through its local partner. The Tiggo 7 PHEV is also expected soon. Industry voices say the arrival of this next-generation hybrid could appeal to Pakistani buyers looking for lower running costs, especially with fuel prices remaining high and interest in greener options growing.

Chery plans to launch the technology first in China later this year before sending it to export markets, including Pakistan. No exact date for Pakistan has been shared yet.
