Islamabad – The Capital Development Authority (CDA) is rolling out a major effort to improve and modernize the look and function of the capital’s established sectors and commercial centers.
In a high-level meeting on Monday, February 16, Chairman CDA and Chief Commissioner Islamabad Muhammad Ali Randhawa reviewed proposals with Member Engineering Syed Nafasat Raza and Directors General of Infrastructure and Works. The focus is on practical upgrades that make daily life easier and the city more attractive.
The plan covers several key areas:
- Repair and improvement of parking lots, footpaths, and cycle tracks
- Better street lighting, fresh lane markings, and clear signage
- Fixing and rebuilding manholes, kerbstones, sewerage lines, and drainage systems
- Landscaping work including new tree planting, flower bed renewal, and green belt maintenance at major intersections
Chairman Randhawa stressed the need for a well-planned, cost-effective approach. He directed teams to finalize designs quickly, clear any encroachments, and make the best use of available funds and materials.
“These steps will help turn Islamabad into a cleaner, greener, and more livable city with better facilities for everyone,” he said during the meeting.

The initiative targets older parts of the city that have seen less attention in recent years. Officials say the work will raise living standards, improve road safety, and make public spaces more pleasant for residents and visitors.
Work is expected to begin soon in phases, with regular progress checks to keep the project on track and within budget.
