Islamabad is set to address its traffic woes with a decisive zero tolerance policy against illegal parking, announced during a key meeting at the Capital Development Authority (CDA) headquarters on Monday, September 15, 2025. Chaired by CDA Chairman and Chief Commissioner Mohammad Ali Randhawa, the session included Inspector General of Police (IGP) Syed Ali Nasir Rizvi, CDA board members, Islamabad Traffic Police, ICT administration, and senior CDA officials.

Key Decisions and Measures
The meeting tackled Islamabad’s traffic challenges with several groundbreaking decisions:
- Ban on Parking on Main Roads: Vehicles will no longer be allowed to park on central highways, with strict legal action promised for violators.
- Formation of Pak Secretariat Traffic Unit (STU): A new unit, comprising DSP Traffic, district administration, and CDA officers, was established and directed to activate immediately.
- New Parking Facilities: The newly constructed parking at Pak Secretariat is now open for government employees and the public, with plans to develop additional parking areas near Jamia Masjid and Kohsar Block.
- Valet Services: Valet services will be introduced to ease parking for Pak Secretariat employees at the new sites.
- Permanent Road Clearance: Vehicles will be permanently removed from Pak Secretariat’s main road.

IGP Rizvi emphasized no leniency for wrong-way driving, with 165 FIRs already registered against illegal parking and wrong-way violations.
Enforcement and Future Plans
Starting October 1, 2025, strict action will target drivers operating vehicles or motorcycles without licenses. Additional measures include:
- Awareness Campaign: Chairman Randhawa ordered a public awareness drive to ensure compliance with traffic laws.
- School Parking: Dedicated parking will be provided for schools in sectors F-6, F-7, and E-7.
- Planning Wing Directive: The planning wing was instructed to identify new parking locations urgently.
- Modern Signage: Advanced signage systems are being installed to improve traffic flow.
Cleanliness and Accountability
The meeting also addressed cleanliness, with directives to penalize hotels and restaurants for littering outside their premises. Safe City cameras will monitor violations, and daily reports on illegal parking and littering will be compiled. Chairman Randhawa instructed engaging trader unions to ensure cooperation in these efforts.
