Diesel Prices Drop Sharply, Petrol to Get Costlier — Here’s the New Rates from August 16

Islamabad (NawaTimes) — From August 16, Pakistan’s fuel prices are set for a mixed change: diesel will get cheaper, but petrol will become slightly more expensive.

According to market updates, high-speed diesel (HSD) prices are likely to drop by Rs. 11.50 per litre, giving some relief to transporters and heavy vehicle users. Petrol, however, is expected to see a small increase of Rs. 1.40 per litre.

Why Diesel is Getting Cheaper

  • Global diesel prices have dropped by $4.5 per barrel in the past two weeks.
  • The Pakistani rupee has gained slightly against the US dollar, lowering import costs.

Why Petrol is Going Up

  • International petrol prices have risen by 15 cents per barrel.
  • Slight currency movement offset only part of the increase.

Currently, the ex-depot price of petrol stands at Rs. 264.61 per litre after a recent Rs. 7.54 cut on August 1. Diesel is priced at Rs. 285.83 per litre after sharp hikes since May.

Other fuels like kerosene and light diesel oil (LDO) are also expected to get cheaper by Rs. 6 and Rs. 7 per litre respectively.

💡 NawaTimes Tip: These price changes will be officially confirmed in the government’s next fortnightly review. Stay tuned — we’ll update you with the final rates as soon as they’re announced.
