Lahore’s bustling Neela Gumbad area will soon see relief from chronic parking woes as the Traffic Engineering and Transport Planning Agency (Tepa) kicks off construction of a modern parking plaza next month. The four-story underground facility aims to ease traffic congestion in one of the city’s busiest commercial hubs.

A Solution to Lahore’s Parking Crisis
The Neela Gumbad Parking Plaza, spanning 16 kanals, will accommodate 374 cars and 790 motorcycles across its three lower levels. The ground floor will feature shops for traders displaced by the project, ensuring their livelihoods are supported. Originally proposed by the Lahore Authority for Heritage Revival (LAHR), Tepa has taken over to bring this vision to life.
“This project will tackle the parking chaos in Neela Gumbad, making it easier for shoppers and businesses alike,” said Iqrar Hussain, Tepa’s Chief Engineer, during a briefing with Lahore Development Authority (LDA) Director General Tahir Farooq. The plaza will include advanced features like a parking management system, fire safety measures, CCTV cameras, and restrooms.

Supporting Local Businesses
To minimize disruption, shopkeepers affected by the land acquisition will receive one-year compensation for business losses. The inclusion of shops on the plaza’s ground floor ensures they can continue operating in the area. This approach reflects the city’s commitment to balancing urban development with community needs.

Future Parking Plans for Lahore
The Neela Gumbad project is just the beginning. Tepa officials revealed plans for additional parking plazas at Nasser Bagh and near Tollinton Market, signaling a broader effort to address Lahore’s traffic and parking challenges. These initiatives aim to modernize the city’s infrastructure while preserving its historic charm.

Commitment to Quality and Timeliness
LDA Director General Tahir Farooq instructed Tepa to finalize the bidding process swiftly while maintaining high standards. “This project must meet its timeline without compromising quality,” Farooq emphasized. The plaza is expected to transform Neela Gumbad into a more organized and accessible commercial hub.
